Meditation Offerings

Somatic meditation involves a bottom-up process, wherein we connect with the inherent, self-existing wakefulness that is already present within this human body of ours.

– Reginald Ray, The Practice of Pure Awareness

Morning Meditation Series restarts March 1, 2021

The morning meditation series is about to begin a new four-week progression. If you are interested in somatic meditation, consider joining us.

Contact philipbenderyoga@gmail.com for Zoom details.

Join Phil for an exploration of somatic meditation. Each day, Monday through Saturday (Sundays off), 6:30-7:10am EDT, we’ll work with various body-centric practices that help us encounter the meditating body — the part of us that continually offers pure, open, unconditional awareness.

Participants come when they can — some every morning, others a few times a week. Throughout the week we’ll delve into one core practice with variations, progressing over approximately four weeks to a more complete practice of pure awareness.

Meditations at the Smithsonian

For several years, I have offered guided practice at the Meyer Auditorium at the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery in Washington DC. Since all Smithsonian museums closed temporarily March 14, 2020, these meditations have shifted to live Zoom gatherings and have expanded to include practices with the wonderful, Aparna Sadananda.

These meditations are free but require registration at National Museum of Asian Art’s website. (https://asia.si.edu/events-overview/workshops/)

Mondays 12:00-12:30pm ET, led by Aparna Sadananda
Wednesdays from 12:00-12:30pm ET, led by Philip Bender
Fridays – Meditation on a work of Art – 12:00-12:30pm ET, led by Aparna or Philip
